After Monika's incident, Fritz Assmann does everything in his power so that Monika can work as a dance teacher at the "Galant." At first, she struggles to follow her mother's strict and disparaging teaching methods. At the dance school, Monika meets Freddy, who provides musical entertainment for the dancers with his band. Monika is somehow fascinated by his passion for music, so he awakens in her a dormant interest in new music from the U.S. which is called "rock 'n' roll". But then Joachim Franck also reappears.
